Ingredients

  • 2 (14.5-ounce) cans French-style green beans, drained
  • 1 (10.5-ounce) can cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 ½ cups French fried onions, divided
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese (optional)
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder (optional, for extra flavor)

Directions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 2-quart casserole dish.
  2. Mix the Sauce:
    In a large mixing bowl, stir together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, black pepper, and garlic powder (if using) until well combined.
  3. Add the Beans and Onions:
    Stir in the drained French-style green beans and ¾ cup of the French fried onions. Add shredded cheddar cheese if desired. Mix gently until all ingredients are evenly coated.
  4. Bake the Casserole:
    Pour the mixture into the prepared casserole dish and spread evenly. Bake uncovered for 25 minutes or until the casserole is hot and bubbly around the edges.
  5. Add the Topping:
    Sprinkle the remaining ¾ cup French fried onions evenly over the top. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the onions are golden brown.
  6. Serve:
    Let the casserole cool slightly before serving. Serve warm as a comforting side dish for holiday dinners or weeknight meals.

For extra richness, add a handful of crispy turkey bacon crumbles or sautéed mushrooms before baking. You can also substitute cream of chicken soup for a slightly different flavor.
