Crustless Buttermilk Pie
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 55 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
Servings: 8 slices
Ingredients
:
- 1 ½ cups buttermilk
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 3 large eggs
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional for extra flavor)
Directions
:
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch pie dish with butter or non-stick spray.
- Prepare the wet ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth and fully combined.
- Add the dry ingredients: Stir in the sugar, flour, salt, and nutmeg (if using). Whisk until everything is completely dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
- Pour into pie dish: Pour the batter into the prepared pie dish.
- Bake: Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the center is set and a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. The pie should be golden on top, but slightly jiggly in the center.
- Cool and serve: Remove from the oven and allow the pie to cool for at least 30 minutes before serving. It will continue to firm up as it cools. You can serve it warm or chilled.
- Optional toppings: Garnish with a dusting of powdered sugar, cinnamon, or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra treat.
Notes:
- The pie will have a custard-like filling, so don’t worry if it seems a little wobbly when you first remove it from the oven!
- If you like, you can add a teaspoon of lemon zest or cinnamon to the batter for a subtle twist on flavor.
Enjoy your crustless buttermilk pie!
