Traditional Thanksgiving Oven Roasted Turkey Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 (12-14 pound) frozen turkey, thawed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 1 carrot, chopped
  • 2 stalks celery, chopped
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
  • 1 tablespoon dried sage

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Remove the giblets and neck from the turkey cavity. Rinse the turkey inside and out, then pat it dry with paper towels.
  3. Rub softened butter all over the turkey, including under the skin, and season generously with salt and pepper.
  4. Stuff the cavity with the quartered onion, chopped carrot, and celery.
  5. Place the turkey breast side up on a rack in a roasting pan. Pour chicken broth into the pan.
  6. Sprinkle thyme, rosemary, and sage over the turkey.
  7. Cover the turkey loosely with aluminum foil and roast in the preheated oven for about 2 hours.
  8. Remove the foil and continue roasting for an additional 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) in the thickest part of the thigh.
  9. Once done, remove the turkey from the oven and let it rest for at least 20 minutes before carving.
