Servings: 24 cookies

Ingredients

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • Assorted fall-themed sprinkles or colored sugar
  • Optional: orange, brown, and yellow food coloring (for themed icing)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.

  4. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using). Mix in the milk.
  5. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients until just combined.
  6. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place on prepared cookie sheets. Flatten slightly with the bottom of a glass.
  7. Decorate with fall-themed sprinkles or sugar, or leave plain if planning to frost later.

  9. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 2 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  10. Optional: Once cool, frost with tinted icing in fall colors.
