Ingredients
- 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon almond extract (optional)
- 3 tablespoons milk
- Assorted fall-themed sprinkles or colored sugar
- Optional: orange, brown, and yellow food coloring (for themed icing)
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using). Mix in the milk.
- Gradually blend in the dry ingredients until just combined.
- Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place on prepared cookie sheets. Flatten slightly with the bottom of a glass.
- Decorate with fall-themed sprinkles or sugar, or leave plain if planning to frost later.
- Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until edges are just starting to turn golden.
- Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 2 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
- Optional: Once cool, frost with tinted icing in fall colors.
